Purpose and Scope

Tourism assets and the tourism sector of Kahramanmaraş province, which was the epicenter of the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023 and suffered great destruction, were damaged. These negativities have made the Earthquake and Kahramanmaraş Tourism Workshop an important necessity.

The aim of the workshop is to identify the problems experienced in the Kahramanmaraş tourism sector and to propose solutions to the identified problems. In addition, the sub-goals of the workshop are to evaluate the tourism diversity of the province and offer suggestions on which areas should be invested in, to discuss how tourism resources can be used more effectively, to draw the framework of cooperation between all tourism stakeholders and to form the basis for the tourism agendas of the institutions in the province.

Earthquake and Kahramanmaraş Tourism Workshop will contribute to compensating the damage caused by the earthquake to the tourism sector as soon as possible and determining the steps for the restructuring of the sector. Additionally, an environment will be created where the knowledge of all tourism stakeholders on the subject can be benefited from.

WORKSHOP SESSIONS

First session (February 7, 2024 – Morning Session):

In the first session, "Identification of Thematic Problems" will be carried out. First of all, groups of 5-6 people will be determined and each group will be asked to discuss the tourism sector problems in the Kahramanmaraş. The groups are expected to identify at least 3 and at most 5 priority problems as a result of the discussion.

Second Session (February 7, 2024-Afternoon Session)

In the second session, the "Identification of Thematic Solutions" work will be carried out on at least 3 and at most 5 problems identified in the previous session. In addition, the formed working groups will be asked to evaluate the tourism diversity in Kahramanmaraş, decide on the prominent tourism type and make suggestions.

Rapporteurs working in the groups will report the topics discussed, thematic problems, thematic solutions and evaluations regarding tourism diversity. The report results will be shared with the participants by making a general evaluation in the closing part of the workshop.
